Coloured Lights

Coloured Lights are really cool :) This tutorial will make some really good rave club lights. You can also use them for a magical kind of room too, really anything you can come up with. to make a light coloured, select the light and hit N. On the Things & Templates window, go to the Light tab. This is your control panel for making cool lights. At the top, they have the colour. simple enough, its in RGB format, first number effects the redness, second colour is the greenness, and the third colour is the blueness. make this light 255, 0, 0. Now go down Intensity. It should be at 400, but this basically shows how bright the light is. I like 400 personally. Go down again, and you come to the Style area. This is really cool. Bring down the drop down box, and you'll see a nice list of styles you can have on your lights. Find Fast Pulse low value. 5 and select it. Now, do the same thing for every light that you just did to this light. Except, make one of the colours on the other lights 0, 255, 0. and the other one 0, 0, 255. Now, if you run your map, you'll come up with some serious coloured light action :) That’s really it for coloured lights. I'm not going to explain whatever every single Effect does, they are self explanatory. If you want to find out some colours with their RGB code, load up your image editor (PhotoShop, Paint Shop Pro, whatever you use) and go to the colour picker. Find a colour you like (dark yellow colours have a really cool look) and it will display what the RGB code is somewhere on their. There are websites that have RGB colour pickers, you need to know what the hex code translates too. Of course, picking it in the Image Editor is much easier

Lighting Effects and Skies

First off, I would like to thank everyone that showed support for my last tutorial. You guys really made me want to do another one :) In this one, we'll be discussing some things people may want for their maps to make them looks better. Lighting Effects (coloured lighting, some actions the lights can do) and skies. first we'll start off with Lighting Effects. Also remember, these are aimed for newbies to Embrace, mostly if a newbie doesn’t know how to add a coloured light or do skies. If you know how to do these, then don’t read the tutorial and flame me saying you already knew it. Thanks :)

First things first. I want you to make a 256x256x256 room, and hollow it out. You can check out my first tutorial if you don’t know how to do that. Then, I want all brushes deselected (you can hit the esc to deselect all brushes) Now I want you to add a player start, and make the floor walkable (can all be found in my first tutorial) and add 3 lights in each corner, 128 units up from the floor.

Lighting Effects to Turn Your Landscaping Into Something Special

Downlighting and uplighting effects can make for some pretty awesome results. With a floodlight aimed downwards off the edge off your roof, you can easily light up any dark area of the garden that could perhaps provide an easy hiding spot for intruders. But functional purposes aside, using floodlights for a downlighting effect can help you showcase your entire landscaping with a good bit of general lighting flooded all around.

Uplighting, which is lighting aimed upwards, can make for some pretty dramatic decorative outdoor lighting effects. What is uplighting anyway? You know that game that children like to play where they position a flashlight right under their chins for the scary effect they get? That's uplighting for you right there. What can you achieve with it? Positioning lights aimed upwards under objects that create shadows can make for a pretty surreal outdoor lighting effect.
